Clarita Morgan tried to find someone to take responsibility for maintaining Morgan Cemetery without success. Apparently the boundaries are not known. This image is from Google maps but its source or accuracy is unknown.
It is reported that when the New River Baptist Temple, which is immediately to the southwest, excavated for their upper parking area which is directly adjacent to the cemetery, bones were accidentally uncovered. Of course, with old cemeteries there are likely unmarked graves. Perhaps a court house search could turn up a deed and plat?
At this point most of the cemetery is covered by maturing trees. The undergrowth is increasingly being shaded out. Perhaps the best thing is to leave it alone and allow it to become mature woodland. It would be respectful if the many overturned stones could be repaired and stood up but, with no one to oversee the cemetery, future damage is likely. A marker at the front of the cemetery acknowledging the cemetery in the history of the community would be appropriate although a highway historical marker on US 11 would probably invite vandalism.
